January Prayer Guide

Worship

The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.Job 1:21b (ESV)

Thank God for all the blessings of 2019.
Thank God for the hardships as well.
Praise God for his faithfulness and love.

Examination

Search me, O God, and know my heart!

Try me and know my thoughts!

And see if there be any grievous way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)

Ask God to search your heart and your thoughts.
Pray to the Lord about your mindset going into this year.
Ask the Lord to guide you by his Word and Spirit.

Confession

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9 (ESV)

Confess to God any sin that he has revealed in your life.
Pray that God would forgive your sin.
Ask the Lord to enable you to repent and follow him.

Resolution

To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 (ESV)

Express your devotion to Christ.
Resolve to do good for others in your life.
Commit to living in a way that glorifies God.
Ask God to help you minister to others in his power.

Renewal

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.Romans 12:2 (ESV)

Pray that you would not give in to worldly influences.
Pray that the Spirit and God’s Word would work in you.
Pray that you can faithfully follow God’s revealed will.

Focus

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13-14 (ESV)

Ask God to help you let go of unhelpful thoughts.
Pray that God would help you to focus on Christ.
Pray that you be responsive to God’s calling for you.
