Responsibility

As you know, Junior High is an interesting time! There are some major transitions taking place as these students find themselves somewhere in between childhood and adulthood. This is a great time developmentally when the students really connect to God with their hearts! It's also a great time to teach some very practical life skills. One of the things we try to work on at this age is managing responsibility.

In Luke 16:10 Jesus said, "One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much." And then in verse 12 Jesus said, "And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?"

Scripture teaches us to be responsible citizens. We are called to be faithful stewards of the things that God has entrusted us with. But the general principle is to start small. Maybe you've had conversations with your child about some major responsibilities that they want to take on. Perhaps they want the latest greatest phone? One day they are going to want a car too! A great strategy might be to come up with goals together for ways that they can be more responsible until they've earned the privilege of something more weighty.

Maybe they have some chores and things to take care of at home. I know they all have homework to complete each night. Consider creating a plan where they can learn more responsibility and you can teach them what it means to be a good steward!
