Dirt

Dirt

by Scott Elliott

Dirt,

Muddy, messy, filthy, dirt,

Lowest of lows,

Crumbling and fragile,

Stepped on, stomped on, washed off and hated,

Dirt.

Dirt,

Dusty, ugly, unclean and foul,

Piled up and pressed down,

Concealer of crimes,

Home to the serpent,

Dirt.

Dirt,

Worthless, lifeless,

Waiting, watching,

Clay.

Clay,

Held, shaped, formed and pressed,

Stretched and pulled,

Worked in his hands,

Clay.

Clay,

Considered, pondered, purposed,

Breathed upon,

Man.

Man,

Crafted and created,

Spirit infused dirt,

Named and assigned,

Free and alive,

Man.

Man,

Lost and disobedient,

Rebellious and destructive,

Falling and dying,

Ashes just striving,

Dirt.

Dirt,

Worthless but loved,

Bloodstained but blood redeemed,

Washed clean,

Freed,

A Seed.

A Seed,

Purchased, planted,

Watered and nurtured,

Waiting for harvest,

Man.
